What Is TEFA?

The Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program is Texas's new education savings account (ESA) program, created by the Texas Legislature in 2025 and administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Participating families receive state education funds in a secure digital wallet managed through Odyssey, the program's certified educational assistance organization.

Homeschool families: $2,000 per student

Deposited in full at the start of the program year.

Private school families: $10,000+

Distributed in installments — tuition first, with any remaining balance available for approved materials.

Funds aren't cash

All purchases happen inside the official TEFA Marketplace. Purchases made outside it are not reimbursed.

CTE counts

Approved expenses include curriculum, instructional materials, and career & technical education programs — exactly where Boss Kid Build fits.

How to Buy Boss Kid Build with TEFA Funds

  1. Log in to your Odyssey account

    Go to your Odyssey parent portal — the same place you completed your TEFA application — and open your student's wallet to confirm your available balance.

  2. Open the TEFA Marketplace

    From your dashboard, click into the Marketplace. This is the only place TEFA funds can be spent.

  3. Search for "Boss Kid Build"

    Find our kits in the Marketplace and choose the ones that fit your Boss Kid.

  4. Check out with your TEFA wallet

    Your purchase is paid directly from your student's TEFA balance — nothing comes out of your pocket, and there's no reimbursement paperwork.

  5. Receive your kit digitally

    You'll receive your printable Student Workbook and Parent Guide by email. Print at home and your Boss Kid can start the same week.

  6. Save your confirmation

    Odyssey tracks your purchase history automatically, but we recommend keeping your order confirmation with your homeschool records.

💡 Boss Parent Tip: Homeschool awards arrive in one $2,000 installment, so it pays to plan your year. At $9 per kit, the complete Boss Kid Build series uses only a small slice of your award while covering an entire year of entrepreneurship learning.

TEFA Quick FAQ

Do I have to buy through the Marketplace?

Yes. TEFA funds can only be spent inside the official Odyssey Marketplace. If you purchase directly from bosskidbuild.com, you cannot be reimbursed with TEFA funds — so make sure you're logged into Odyssey first.

Can I still buy directly from your website?

Absolutely! Families not using TEFA funds can purchase any kit right here at bosskidbuild.com with instant digital delivery.

My application was waitlisted — can I still participate?

Possibly. The Comptroller's office has been awarding additional accounts from the waitlist in batches. Check your Odyssey portal and email for updates.

I missed the application window — what now?

Applications for 2026–27 have closed, but you can join the interest list for the 2027–28 school year at educationfreedom.texas.gov. In the meantime, every Boss Kid Build kit is available for direct purchase.

I have an ESA in another state — can I use it?

Not yet — but it's coming! Boss Kid Build is currently an approved vendor in the Texas TEFA and Wyoming ESA Marketplaces, and we're working to join additional state ESA programs in the near future. In the meantime, every kit is available for direct purchase right here at bosskidbuild.com — and you can contact us to be the first to know when we're live in your state.

Does Boss Kid Build meet Texas homeschool requirements?

Our kits are written curriculum in visual (printable) form and support skills like reading, writing, and math through real-world business projects. They're designed to complement — not replace — your core curriculum, and they shine as your CTE/electives component.
